Election 2016: the Trojan Horse
Does President Trump practice the Strategy of the Indirect Approach on the myth-stream media (MSM) or do the MSM fall victim to the Law of Unintended Consequences? Either way, President Trump continues to play the MSM like a fly fisherman dangling a Mayfly in front of a fat trout.
Example: The Left opposes a bi-partisan investigation of voter fraud. So, President Trump makes a probably exaggerated estimate of the number of fraudulent votes cast in the 2016 election. Eager to prove the President wrong, the MSM leaps for the bait, demanding the very kind of bi-partisan investigation the MSM’s left-leaning supporters vehemently oppose. Touché! Example: President Trump makes an extravagant claim about the crowd size at his inauguration. The MSM disputes Trump’s claim, only to help President Trump make the really important truth more vivid: The attendance at the Hillary/Bernie inauguration was: Zero.
Another example: The Left supports unrestricted immigration, even from the Muslim-majority countries President Obama already designated as hotbeds of terrorism. But, over the previous eight years, President Obama stocked his Administration with officials who support open borders. So, President Trump issues three executive orders: Executive Order 13767 (build a wall). Executive Order 13768 (cuts tax dollars [about $27 billion] to sanctuary cities). Executive Order: 13769 (a temporary 90-day travel pause while more effective terrorist-screening procedures are put in place.) The orders make no mention of Muslims or Islam.
Result: The three orders exposed those in the Department of Justice and the Department of State who oppose the enforcement of the immigration laws which have been settled law for decades. President Trump already said, "You’re fired!" to an acting attorney general and he may decide to accept the resignations of any Foreign Service Officers who self-identify as refusing to enforce our existing immigration laws.
On November 8, 2016, voters rolled Donald J. Trump’s Trojan Horse through the MSM’s main gate. Recall how both Virgil and Homer (no, not Simpson) told how the Greeks pretended to end their ten-year siege of Troy, leaving behind a huge wooden horse as a tribute to the victorious Trojans. To celebrate, the Trojans pulled the Trojan Horse inside their fortress. But hidden inside the horse were Greek Special Forces. During the night, Special Operators fast-roped to the ground and threw open the gate. Greek Marines poured through, defeating the Trojans.
President Trump, as no President ever before, uses social media to infiltrate the MSM’s fake-news fortress. So, whether President Trump knows how to play the MSM or the MSM is the victim of its own willful lack of objectivity, the finances of both the MSM and Hollywood are in a precarious state. From 2000 to 2014, newspaper advertising fell from $67 billion down to $19.9 billion. The newspaper work force is down by almost half. Movie attendance is at an almost 20-year low. If the MSM and Hollywood refuse to adopt at least a modicum of objectivity toward the Trump Administration, in particular, and toward world events, in general, the two industries may find themselves like the highly advertised dog food that the dogs would not eat. For the media savvy, this is interesting to watch.
