The Choice: 1st World or 3rd World?
Let me associate myself with the belief of the late civil-rights leader, James Bevel, who famously said, "A racist is someone who believes there is more than one race." Mr. Bevel was correct. Humankind consists of only one race. It just happens to be Technicolor.
One of the things one learns from living overseas for a long, long time is that there is a distinctly American culture or character. From an al fresco table at a German konditorei or a Paris bistro or an Austrian kaffeehaus, you can watch a flood of European passersby and suddenly an American will catch your eye. The person can be Afro-American, Cuban-American, Latino-American, German-American, Irish-American, Scottish-American, or Native-American, it makes no difference. We Americans walk, dress, and act in ways that are uniquely American. The typical American tourist is easy to spot and, of course, off-duty American GIs are even easier. So, looking and acting like an American really has nothing to do with race.
From Plymouth Rock to San Diego, wave upon wave of immigrants have come to America and, somehow, we have blended into each other in a way that forms a unique American culture. But, if what is happening in Western Europe is a harbinger of things to come, that might change for the worse.
Since World War II, those who have held political power in Europe have depended upon an essentially conservative, albeit socialist, middle-class base of support. (Yes, it is possible to be a socialist in terms of government theory but conservative when it comes to religion, old-world manners, modes of dress, and tastes in music and art.)
But the European middle-class that has always formed the center-left and center-right political coalitions is dying out. The light- or olive-skinned elites who hold political power from the Scandinavian nations all the way down into Spain and Greece are feeling the political sands shifting from underneath their feet. Desperate to hold onto political power, Europe’s political elites appear willing to trade their first-world culture for votes from the third-world immigrants who are flooding like a tsunami over their non-existent European Union borders.
What we are seeing in France is called: the "le grand remplacement," the replacement of an aging, conservative population with a massive influx of younger, third-world immigrants who go immediately onto the welfare rolls and can be relied upon to vote to keep the leftist elites in power.
Europe’s leftist elites are trading the clean, safe, modern conveniences of first-world Europe in exchange for votes from the third-world immigrants who want to escape the squalor of their, pardon my French, merde-hole countries. In other words, the political elites are willing to commit cultural treason in order to hold onto power.
Could this happen here? It depends on how much American voters want to maintain the unique, multi-ethnic American culture we have now. Currently on Capitol Hill there is a debate between those who want open borders, chain migration, and the visa lottery system versus those who want a merit-based, legal-immigration system protected by a partial wall along our southern border.
The outcome of that debate will depend, in part, on the upcoming mid-term congressional elections. We report. You decide.
