Democrat nomination: Tea leaves and smoke signals

Reading the tea leaves as to the eventual winner of the Democratic Party’s nomination to run for president against President Trump is fraught with hazard. Yet, it might be interesting. And even amusing.

As it stands now, the ultra left-wing candidates, Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, are fading when their vote totals are compared to the aggregate vote totals of Mayor Buttigieg, Senator Klobuchar, former vice-president, Joe Biden, and the rest of the dwindling Democrat field.

As they did in 2016, the movers and shakers at the top of the Democratic Party hierarchy understand that Middle America will never elect the socialist Bernie Sanders or a socialist lookalike, such as Elizabeth Warren. So, scratch Bernie and Warren, along with Joe Biden who never had a realistic chance even before the impeachment/acquittal of President Trump exposed the Ukrainian and Chinese machinations of the Biden corruption family.

So, assuming no Democrat wins the nomination on the first ballot, a brokered convention opens the door for the white, former Republican, multi-billionaire, Michael Bloomberg.

But, to win the Democrat nomination, Bloomberg will need the votes of some delegates from the party’s far left-wing and some votes from the party’s African-American delegates. Here is how that might happen:

Senator Warren, knowing she has zero chance, signals to Mike Bloomberg saying, "Look, in exchange for a high cabinet post, I can help you defeat Bernie Sanders. While I cannot pledge my ultra-liberal base to a white, male, multi-billionaire, I can pledge my base to a liberal woman, to Senator Amy Klobuchar. When my supporters go over to Amy, Bernie cannot win, and you get the nomination. But wait, There’s more:

"In order to win the General Election, you need to retain our party’s hold on African-Americans. You can do that by putting my colleague, Senator Cory Booker, on your ticket as vice-president. That will raise hopes of seeing another African-American president down the road.

"Then, you will need to run to the right a bit by modifying your attempts to do away with the 2d Amendment. Middle America doesn’t want to lose its right to keep and bear arms. Be anti-war and pro-choice. The suburban soccer moms will love you. Pull the good things President Trump is doing for our country into your message. Promise that you will do those things even better."

Of course, no politician would want to get caught communicating that she or he is willing to betray an ideological colleague in exchange for a high cabinet post such as secretary of education or secretary of health and human services. With the media watching, Senator Warren cannot go, like Judas, in the dark of night to Bloomberg.

To its Russia-hoax horror, the 2016 Trump campaign learned the U.S. government can read your electronic communications. To her chagrin, Hillary Clinton learned that private hackers can do the same.

Fortunately for the Indian wannabe, Senator Warren, she has a secret communications medium. All Senator Warren has to do is teach Michael Bloomberg how to read smoke signals. So, if we see Senator Warren at the Democratic National Convention carrying a wet, Native American blanket and bunch of firewood, we will know, in advance, what is about to happen.
