Spygate: The coup that failed

In Banana Republics, successful coup d’état feature these elements: 1. Control of the Ministry of Justice (DOJ) 2. Control of the National Police (FBI). 3. Control of the Intelligence Community (DNI, CIA, NSA et al).4. Control of or, at least, the subornation of key legislators. 5. Assistance of the permanent bureaucracy (the Deep State). 6. Control of the Media (CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, New York Times, Washington Post, NPR et al). 7. A central objective, directed by a Master Mind. 8. Control of the Military.

In 2015, the pre-election phase of a fledgling coup began in the USA when the Master Mind directed the DOJ, the FBI and the Intelligence Community to spy on Donald J. Trump and his associates. The Master Mind even weaponized the IRS (Lois Lerner) to frustrate fund-raising by conservative political organizations. Except for the Military, the coup captured seven of the eight elements for success.

During the pre-election phase, the Master Mind, with help from senior officials in the DOJ, directed the FBI and the Intelligence Community to spy on the Trump Campaign. When DIA director, Lt. General Michael Flynn, told Congress al-Qaeda was stronger than White House claims, Flynn was fired.

During the presidential-transition phase, the Master Mind’s minions implored members of the Electoral College to vote for someone other than president-elect Trump. The plotters needed 37 "faithless Electors." But only seven "faithless Electors" compiled. When NSA director, Admiral Michael Rogers, discovered the NSA was being misused based on bogus FISA warrants, Admiral Rogers revealed the plot to president-elect Trump.

Post-election, the plotters used the FBI to eliminate the threat posed by former DIA director, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn. Senior DOJ officials convinced President Trump’s Attorney General to turn the DOJ over to his Obama-appointed deputy who authorized Robert Mueller to conduct an investigation of "alleged" Russian collusion.

The MSM attacked GOP Congressman Devin Nunes for trying to expose the plot. The active assistance of the late Senator John McCain and the disinterest of former House Speaker Paul Ryan allowed the plotters to continue without congressional interference.

The Master Mind tried to get the Trump Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office. That failed. By delay and obfuscation, the Deep State tried to frustrate the Trump reform agenda at every turn.

Unfortunately for the coup plotters, Robert Mueller could find no evidence of Russian collusion. During an Impeachment Trial, the U.S. Senate found no merit in charges of presidential misconduct with regard to Ukraine.

Now, despite President Trump’s masterful summoning of government and private-industry resources to combat the Red Chinese Coronavirus, the Master Mind claims President Trump did not do enough. He was too soon or too late -- ad nauseam.

But the main reason the coup has failed thus far is that President Trump, the street-fighter, refuses to go down. To the delight of his followers in fly-over country, President Trump plays the left-wing media like a Stradivarius.

If President Trump wins reelection, we are likely to learn the identity of the Master Mind. Otherwise, as they say on "The Sopranos," you can "fuggetaboudid."
