CENTRAL VIEW for Monday, August 2, 2021

by William Hamilton, Ph.D.

Lord, Lord, how this world is given to lying.*

In a just society, the norm is for the people (the demos) to obey the law; especially, those laws that have both legal and moral authority. But just because an elected body enacts a law and it is signed by the elected executive authority and the law is tested in the courts and found to be constitutional does not mean that every law has moral authority.

For example, the Courts have held that it is legal for the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to lie to suspects who are being questioned. A typical case is when the police hold two suspects in separate rooms and they tell Suspect A that Suspect B has confessed to the crime and named Suspect A as his or her accomplice. A total lie. Or, they tell Suspect A his or her fingerprints were found at the scene of a crime when that was not true.

While the legal authority to lie to suspects during questioning currently exists, where is the moral authority for such a practice? Moreover, a law that lacks moral authority lays the foundation for the law to be ignored by scofflaws.

Some lawyers say that "bad events" make for "bad law." For example, the Pearl Harbor attack was a "bad event," that provoked FDR to place thousands of patriotic Japanese-Americans into internment camps. The 9/11 attacks were "bad events," leading to the Patriot Act’s erosion of our 1st, 2d, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 14th Amendment rights, and to unfortunate laws that have put some law-abiding Americans under a Surveillance State led by the National Security Agency, the DOJ, the FBI, the Intelligence Community, and by Big Tech.

In 2020, if the election laws enacted by our 50 state legislatures had been followed and the "bad event" of the Wuhan Virus had not intervened, we would not be under assault by government operatives propelled by their vision of a Socialist/Communist Utopia that lacks historical credibility and is devoid of moral authority.

In fact, the "bad event" of the Wuhan Virus is so useful to those in power that steps are being taken to keep the U.S. in a permanent state of national Wuhan virus emergency. How else to explain the Biden Regency’s** open borders policy and the depositing of thousands of unscreened, unvaccinated illegal immigrants in every region of our nation -- a policy that makes the goal of herd immunity virtually impossible to achieve.

So, whether one believes in masking or not or vaccines or not, where does the Biden Regency** -- that is dropping unscreened, unvaccinated illegal immigration all over the nation -- get the moral authority to order people to mask or to be vaccinated?

Fair disclosure:. Yours truly wears a mask and even latex gloves as circumstances indicate and has had both Moderna shots. But what individuals chose to do should be a matter of individual freedom of choice. The Biden Regency’s** moral authority to order anyone to do anything is highly suspect.
