A Brave New Post-Putin World

Satire: With apologies to Peter Zeihan’s epic The End of the World is just the Beginning (2020). Let’s say the Indirect Approach to a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine War outlined in the previous issue of "Central View" did not work. Instead, Vladimir Putin is using nuclear weapons to blast his way through Ukraine to overrun Poland and the three Baltic States.

Alas, the U.S. discovers its only conventional post-Obama/Biden* war-fighting capability resides in its relatively small Special Forces Command and some Navy and USAF fighter jocks (all toxic males). The Army and Marines are busy practicing pronouns.

Consequently, the U.S. love-bombs the Kremlin. Russia sues for peace. Elon Musk tweets the world should be reorganized under neo-Colonialism with the U.S. in charge. Therefore, Russia is divided into three parts. The French are given a Treaty of Versailles-like Mandate over Russia from Moscow west to St. Petersburg.

Germany, which really could use some lebensraum, is given a Mandate over Russia from Moscow east to the Ural Mountains. The Germans are masters of ground transportation. They will see Russia’s wheat harvest gets to market before it rots. Jointly, Turkey and Israel preside over the eastern Mediterranean Sea and eastern North Africa. They internationalize the Suez Canal. Great Britain is given a Mandate over the western Mediterranean and western North Africa with a special charge to keep the Strait of Gibraltar open to peaceful shipping.

Japan is given a Mandate over Siberia and all the land stretching back west to the Ural Mountains. The U.S. Renaming Commission -- which just finished re-sculpting Mt. Rushmore to depict Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin -- is tasked to provide each Mandate with a culture-cancelling name.

Due to the Shale Revolution, the U.S. no longer needs oil from the Middle East and leaves Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran to duke it out over Persian Gulf hegemony. After the 2024 election, with the U.S. back in the hands of sentient adults, the U.S. brings its Navy up to Cold War readiness so all peaceful nations can engage in peaceful maritime commerce.

Red China, doomed by its self-inflicted demographic time bomb lit by the late Chairman Mao’s one-child policy that caused the murder of millions of baby girls, splits into 56 ethnic clans struggling to assemble iPhones and make paymens to the Bidens.* China’s Belt and Road Initiative folds. Taiwan and Hong Kong celebrate.

The U.S. regains control of its border with Mexico and puts trade with Mexico back into its pre-Biden* healthy condition. Unfortunately, the U.S. demand for illegal drugs continues. The drug cartels continue to thrive. Still, the U.S., Canada, and Mexico form the world’s most powerful and profitable trading block. The Central and South American nations, along with some African nations with socialist/communist economies continue to fail.

The United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark (all former colonial powers) team up to advise the United States on how to administer the neo-Colonial Era. , Meanwhile, the Irish concentrate on making more Guinness.

Seriously, after the dissolution of the USSR on December 26, 1991, the West failed to warmly welcome Russia back into the family of civilized nations. Instead, we grew a paranoid, Czarist-wannabe ras-Putin. .

*Election disputed.
